Hey, go check out The Vintique Object blog today. She's doing a post on our kitchens which we both redid with very little money. If you don't know Camille already, you may want to poke around her blog a little. She's very analytical about interior photos and has come up some great observations that will help you improve the photos for your blog. I enjoy it a lot.
I think Camille did a great job on her kitchen and everytime I see it I think how LUCKY her landlord is to have her there!!

I'm on my way. Daughter #2 thinks your pillow comment was a hoot.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI was sitting here staring into my kitchen with a frown on my face and you and Camille have made it into a smile.
(I'm off to Follow her blog now!)

Thanks for the tip, Steve. I gathered a couple great ideas from the Vintique Object already! I love finding a fresh blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely transformation you did! I love the "new" version - how did you live with that yellow? what were they thinking?
ReplyDeleteNice of Camille to show off your work.
I remember your earlier posting about your kitchen. One of the things that strikes me about your renovation — like that perfect addition of the mirror — is that you've really made it into more of a living space (and by that I mean that every room should be a "living room.").
ReplyDeleteBoth kitchens are really beautiful! Thanks for the link to Camille's blog, I really enjoyed looking through her pictures!

How did you paint the tile? I would really, really, really like to know more about that. My tiles are driving me mad but I'm afraid to paint them.
ReplyDeleteI would consider painting the tile just a temporary solution and only do it in places that don't need constantly wiping down or scouring (like a countertop). I washed the tiles down really well to make sure all the grease was off. It might be a good idea to use TSP to clean them too. (I did not). Then I primed with Kilz (oil-based primer) and then just used Benjamin Moore Decorator's White in semi-glass to paint them with a smooth roller.
ReplyDeleteThree years later the paint is still holding. I did touch up the area around the sink once because there were a few splashed stains of something but that was only because it was being photographed.
Just hopped over to Camille's on your suggestion...very nice and I agree you don't have to gut it all out.
ReplyDeleteNice! great link....!

Oh! Nice and nice! Two great and remarkably simple kitchen changes...I'm off to check out her blog some more! Thanks, guy!
ReplyDeleteSteve, This is exactly what I plan on doing to our kitchen in CT...one thing we need to do is change out the electric stove to gas. I can't cook on electric. I think your kitchen has inspired many...I love Camille's kitchen too...and see that she added a mirror as well. It takes a while to get the idea of how to fully renovate a kitchen and this will give us time to still enjoy it. It's amazing how a little paint, a woven shade and a well edited group of things on open shelves just make it such a beautiful space.
