Flowers in the House


A gutted interior can be quite gloomy so I thought I would infuse a little freshness into the space for the beautiful Easter weekend with some fresh flowers.  

I'm actually linking up with Small but Charming's monthly flower party so I thought I'd do something a little fun and different.



One of the old wood posts in the bathroom space had a large vertical mortise cut out of it and it seemed like the perfect place to tuck a few flowers.



I love the juxtaposition of the flowers and the 170-year-old beams.

I love having fresh flowers in the house but the cats think they're toys so they usually end up all over the floor.



'Lil Sassy loves them too!




I'll try putting them up out of reach so I can enjoy them.

    Lana, I'm afraid I don't know the name. They're grocery store roses.

    They DO smell! I was pleasantly surprised to notice their scent when I walked through the construction site. I'm hoping my David Austins do well this year so I can bring a bunch inside. I have an old bourbon rose that's got an amazing scent but they seem very fragile and don't last too long.

    Steve -- I'm a trained floral designer and have to pass along a tip to you to keep those flowers in the beam alive, if your cats don't get to them first.

    Run by your grocery department and ask for water tubes -- you know those plastic test tube thingies with a rubber top? Fill to brim and shove rose in there. Then tuck back into the beam. (If it will fit. They do come in varying sizes.) That's what we do when creating a floral wedding garlands on hot summer days. Works like a charm.

    I love this...they look beautiful tucked into the beams and the little zinc pot with the beam behind gives an industrial feel to it and in case that wasn't enough detail...I see you added a few screws on a leaf...no detail too small!
