Thanks to everyone for the get-well wishes. I was down with the flu for about five days.
It wasn't the sickest I've ever been but I guess I was lucky. I've heard from people who were sick for a few weeks.
We got about 28 inches of snow literally overnight and I was feeling well enough to get
myself shoveled out today. I took some before and after photos to share.
This was the first time I've ever seen a front-end loader plowing the streets.
We were lucky compared to many who have no power and others on the waterfront whose
homes were flooded and/or destroyed by astronomically high tides last night and this morning.
We're expecting rain on Monday which will add a lot of additional weight to the snow that's up there so I have to get up my roof tomorrow to shovel it off.
Just another winter day in New England.
So glad to hear you still have power. That is an amazing amount of snow! So sorry I somehow missed you were sick. So glad to hear you are feeling better. But be careful, you need to be careful to not have a relapse. Take care and stay safe. Bonnie
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you are safe and warm. I know lots of people love snow but I belong to a different club and I am so thankful that I live where I do.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Nice shoveling!
My daughter lives on Beacon Hill and the pictures she posted of Pinckney St and Anderson St were epic ... anyone with a car on the road has my sympathy ... I thought everyone would be getting their cars into parking garages and the underground lots ... but alas ... clean-up will be such a headache! But it sure is pretty!
ReplyDeleteGlad you popped back from the flu bug! Stay warm and cozy and bundle up, kiddo!
I can't imagine getting down some of those little streets in Beacon Hill. It must be beautiful though.
DeleteGlad you are fine.I grew up in the snow belt of Western New York(Buffalo/Niagara Falls area).Don't miss that stuff at all!!!
ReplyDeleteNow,I live in Florida.See why?
Glad to hear you're okay! I thought about you when I heard about how the Boston area on the news.
ReplyDeleteWe were pretty lucky too. No power loss and no need to her out on the roads! We got less snow than you, though. We were at 21".
Stay warm!
Tim
Remove *how* and her is supposed to say *get*.
DeleteGlad you're safe, nonetheless.
That snowfall brings back memories of past bad winters.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for you and everyone that has to deal with all that.
We've been lucky in the Midwest for the last 2 years. (Knock on wood.)
I thought about you when people from the Boston area posted photos on Facebook. Someone had left their car windows down and the snow was to the top of the roof inside the car!
Please, please, please be careful out there shoveling.
They say it's as strenuous as lifting weights non-stop.
And I shudder to think of you on the roof. :(
But Hey! I bet you will get some more cool photos from up there!
Seriously, Be careful.
Wow, that's a boatload of snow! Do you have a roof rake? They are great! Love all your before & after photos. My friend Susan @ From Beyond My Kitchen Window did the same thing with one of her photos!
ReplyDeleteWe fled to OOB, ME Thursday at 10:15 p.m. Had to check the oil, etc. Unfortunately we had an on-shore storm that dropped 7 inches of snow before the blizzard . . . We had record snow in OOB. We're about 1/2 dug out, will finish in the morning, head back to MA to do it all over again!
Spring can't come soon enough!!! I also have a bone to pick with that ground hog!!! LOL!!!
I don't have a roof rake. I have a flat roof on the back of the house and I can get out there through a little door on the back of the attic to shovel it off. I just had a leak in that roof last week so it'll give me a chance to see what's going on. A new roof is coming soon.
DeleteGood luck with your shoveling!
I am smiling . . . something so delightful about the before and after. ( I realize you might not be thinking so delightful!)
ReplyDeleteAmazing how a snowfall/blizzard can bring about such feeling . . . gotta smile when you see a front-end loader plowing in front of your house.
Happy you are feeling better . . . ease into all the work of the snow . . . enjoy it a bit too . . .
Yikes! Some storm... and to think in N.C. I didn't even wear a coat today! :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better. xo
I am wintering in Tucson, Arizona. It has been in the mid seventies all week. One must admire the fortitude of East Coast people willing to endure those winters.
ReplyDeleteWe've had a lot of snow and I see you received it as well. Our plow guy couldn't get up our mountain so he had to get a guy to come plow with a pay loader. The husband has been taking all the snow off the roof due to the rain coming on Monday. Next week is going to be warm so hopefully the snow will melt fast but as cold as it is tonight I'm not holding my breath.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the snow Steve and stay warm!

Steve,
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures! Here in sunny FL it's been all over the news cause sunny days get boring lol. Actually, we are only here for the winter and, if home, would be sitting in a cold house without power in Plymouth.
PLEASE be careful getting rid of the snow on your roof. Don't know if you remember "Sidwalk Sam" (he would draw amazing chalk pictures in Boston). He became a quadrapoligic (sp) after falling off the roof of his home.
Take care,
Denise
Great pictures! So glad you are feeling better--5 days is a long time to be sick.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have POWER!
ReplyDeleteMy aunt and uncle are on LI, in Oyster Bay.
They have power, too, but no one is plowing!
It's a mess and a half.
Good thing it eventually melts...but I still can't believe how many stupid people are "parked" on the LIE.
Now that's what I call proper snow. We have the prospect of 2inches of snow tonight here just north of London and it will cause chaos! I'm a new follower and enjoy your posts. I visited your part of the US last year and fell in love with the area.
ReplyDeleteYour before and after photos are awesome. Wasn't this blizzard something? My husband has to shovel of the dormer roof today too. Be careful, it will be icy under all that snow.
ReplyDeletePretty pictures, you got walloped. Snow makes such a beautiful subject! We got 12 inches here in NJ, thankfully it was all on a Friday night and we have plenty of time to dig out and then relax. Glad you're feeling better
ReplyDeleteYay you're back and in fighting or shoveling form as it were.
ReplyDeleteThat was quite a storm and quite a workout cleaning up.
If we were neighbors GG would be up on that roof for you befor you had a chance to warm up the chili.
Now rain? Jeeze. DC would be shut down for the week.

Hi Steve,
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you were sick. So glad you got better in time to deal with this storm.
Thanks for posting your great before & after photos. It's nice for people in other parts of the country to see our beautiful NE weather.
Well, Im off to walk my dog & then do more shovelling.
All the best, Ruth
Steve, thank you for going to the trouble to take the before and after photos - dramatic comparisons. What a difference one day can make. I am encouraged to know that you sustained power and have put the worst of the flu bug behind you. Just the say, go easy with roof raking and shoveling ALL THAT SNOW!
ReplyDeleteLinda (feeling like a sissy down here in Virginia)
amazing pics. my sis in west haven, ct got almost as much. and sneeky you...I see the snow in your header!
ReplyDeleteglad you're better.
donna
Yes amazing pictures Steve. Please be safe up on your roof or borrow a roof rake.
ReplyDeleteDonna.
wow. I don't know how you New Englanders do it. I am such a wuss I am afraid of snow. Happy to hear you feel better.
ReplyDeleteOh my!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOmg that is a lot of snow! It looks like powdered sugar...so pretty and fluffy (says a Cali girl who has never been in snow that wasn't on a mountain with a ski lift). Your pictures are amazing!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better but be careful up on that roof!
Glad to read that you survived the flu and Nemo.
ReplyDeleteI live in Fairfield CT and we got slammed too. I also work for DPW and we are using the front loaders because the plows keep getting stuck in the snow. We are also on the coast but I don't have any info on the houses down there. We just pray they will be safe.
ReplyDeleteLooks like normal ND winters :-) Stay safe. Be careful when you go shovel off the roof.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of snow. It was like that growing up on the east coast and also living in Ontario. We don't get those big 2 foot of snow storms here.
ReplyDeleteI love the little path out the front door. There is something amazing about a big storm and beautiful and powerful, unless of course you are stuck in airport or need to get something done.
:)
Of course they always come on the weekend and everything is sunny and shipshape on Monday.
xo Terri
Glad you are feeling better. What a mess. I moved full time to SW Florida three years ago, and I have to say I do not miss the snow one tiny bit. Be careful on that roof.
ReplyDeleteBest...Victoria
Love your pictures! I'm so glad you didn't lose power. What an AMAZING storm! Now I'm off to vote for you!!!!
ReplyDeleteokay...that's a lot of snow. 28 inches!!...we didn't get nearly that much, but still we just heard no school again tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteDude...that was some freaking snow storm!!! Holy crap. You guys who live up in those parts....I gotta hand it to you. Balls to get through the winters. Hope you are kicking that nasty flu out of your system. Feel better soon:)
ReplyDeleteI love it! We are hardy New Englanders after all! Snowshoed all weekend in a car-less Salem and no classes again today. But watch your back, Steve.
ReplyDeleteWow....so much snow! I'm glad your feeling better and keep warm. A nice big bowl of chicken noodle soup sounds good!
ReplyDeleteSteve, I'll give you a break and not mention how warm it is here today in Florida!
ReplyDeleteYou had twice as much snow as us! The wind is really what got us. Hope you are safe and have power!
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness...how awful! Glad to hear you do at least have power and that you & yours are safe. Be careful up there on that rooftop!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWOW! You really got hit didn't you! I had heard how bad it was going to be, so it was worse than they said. I hope you get through it okay and don't lose any trees due to the heavy snow. Hugs, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI do love to see YOUR snow! It is gorgeous. Hope youre not shut in long..those streets look nasty. Be safe and hope you stay well!

Wow, you got a lot more snow than we did. It's snowing again now but it's supposed to turn to rain overnight. Winter fun!
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh....the stories I could tell! We only got about 11" here in Syracuse Friday night (for a change). Glad you're feeling better and recovering from the storm. Only a few weeks until Spring begins! Yay!! I am counting the days my friend!
ReplyDelete**Tami**
The best convalescence is swimming in warm sea water: fly down to Mexico!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better.
Love you before and after pictures. Nothing like 28" of snow to turn into 4 feet with drifting! We lost power all weekend, but am happy so much has since melted!
ReplyDeleteI hope u had plenty of wine stocked up during the blizzard. Oh -next year...flu shot
ReplyDeleteI am actually jealous of your snow. Send some to Chattanooga! We need a good blizzard.
ReplyDeleteI know you think it's just another winter day in New England but if I looked out my front door and saw that much snow, I would panic. Absolutely. I've always lived in the South and I don't know how to deal with snow. Aggggghhhh.
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures, the most thing I like is that there is so much snow.
