All's Well

All is well at the Urban Cottage.  The storm is gone and the sun is shining.  It was a windy, rainy day with little more than a few extended, howling gusts that had me flinching...waiting for a crack of a limb, or crash of something but my house and big old tree fared well.  We're left with little more than limbs down in the streets and leaves everywhere. While hundreds of thousands were left without power around the state, I was able to iron my shirts for the week.  It's a good thing; some us called in "sick" because, without power, we can't do our hair.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.  Please divert those to the people who suffered real damage, especially the people from New Jersey up through Vermont (and others) who weren't so lucky.

  5. That's just about our story too. I was worried last night. The gusts seemed much stronger than they had all day.

The Cottage looks serene. I hope our vacation is too!

  8. It's gratifying to learn that friends new and old living on the ooast have faired well in the storm. Yes, my prayers also will be deverted to others less fortunate.

  9. Nice to hear good news for a change..but geez! Those poor folks in eastern NY and Vermont are having a tough time of it. Imagine...only a couple hours from me and I faired pretty well...no down trees around here...heavy rain and some high wind gusts..but no real damage here in Syracuse area...but...only a couple hours from here...

  10. Happy to hear you're safe. We were fortunate also, not even a tree limb down in our yard! Other parts of our town are still without power!

  14. So glad to hear you were able to iron those shirts, by gawd :). Thanks for checking on me, Steve. By the way, you could easily compile a book of beautiful vignettes.

  18. I thought about you during the storm, so glad to hear you had no damage. Having grown up on the southern coast and lived in the south most of my life, I no too well what one of these storms can do!

  19. Hey Steve, I had my eye on the map, thinking about you! Glad you were spared. I'm quite happy you decided to prepare to batten the hatches, though - seeing as I love your topiary in the kitchen! Stunning photo - great design! :)

  20. I'm so glad you survived the storm ok. I had no idea there was a big storm. I didn't have the tv on for at least a week. One morning, Amy called of Maison Decor and as we talked she'd say.."oh..there goes a big one!" It's really starting to blow outside. Then she told me about the big storm that I knew nothing about and she was calling to console me in the middle of it. She made it through just fine too. Good thing there was not a big storm here...because I would have just gotten blown away.
