A Perfect Gray Floor

Just a quick note to let you know I haven't forgotten about you.
I've just been really, really busy.

I did get a few coats of paint on the bedroom floor and I'm really happy with
how it turned out. I used Allflor paint tinted to Benjamin Moore's Gray Owl.
I had wanted to use oil paint to get a really
high-gloss finish but I didn't want to deal with the smell, the mess
or the few days' drying time so I went with latex.
I have to admit, I love the duller finish.
It's like the patina is built in.

You may also notice a new chest. I've always wanted a
Gustavian piece and when I saw one at Darby Road,
I knew it was coming home with me.

I have to thank Google for this piece.
I've been saving up my Adsense checks to use for splurges
and this is my first one.  Since I've added this Gustavian piece you
might anticipate which direction the room is going in but I hope you're wrong.

I hope to shake it up a little bit by mixing in some modern and some industrial pieces.

  10. Beautiful.
Someday I will actually paint my floors. I guess I will use Latex too, if it dries faster and it does look lovely!

  11. I love painted floors. I would love glossy black painted floors but I am not fooling anyone...ain't gonna happen here.
I am really excited to see an eclectic mix in there. I think the plant container was a nice choice.

  13. I wonder how it will hold up to traffic....

the floors in out living space totally need to be refinished but there's that $$$ thing again.

I do love your floor...could GG be persuaded?

You've been missed, you and your fabulous taste.

  14. I think the patina is perfect, a gloss floor shows up every imperfection and as your floors look like they are in an older house, this is just the right look. I love the grey too...so much warmer and practical than the white a lot of people are wanting at the moment.

The gray floor is a stunner, and I'm dying to see this finished product. You'll be done just in time to keep us entertained with the holidays in your home!! 26. I love the gray floor! Glad you didn't use oil...it's not very environmental friendly. :)

Let us know how it holds up. I'm thinking about painting the bedrooms upstairs but 1) is it worth the work and 2) how will the transition to the landing look? How does your transition look to the hallway?

  27. Your floor looks great, Steve — I'll have to tuck away the name "Allflor" for future reference. Now I'm hoping you'll give us a closer peek at that chest of drawers!

  28. Steve, the floor looks marvelous and, most important of all, you are pleased with the outcome. As ever, you have been generous with information and I really appreciate the tips for a painted floor project at our house has been receiving more serious discussion of late - a good sign.

  29. NNNNNNice!! Fabulous, Steve. Very Swedish.....so I guess I'm wrong. Since this is an urban cottage, adding modern / industrial would be awesome.

  32. How many shades of grey did you look at until you chose this one?
    Sorry. I couldn't resist :)

    It's very pretty.
The matte finish will be a great foil for some slick modern touches.

Are you still going to use that abstract painting you showed us a while ago?

Can't wait to see the finished project!

  37. You know what I have figured out about you....that you are one patient dude! If you just leave the room with that cool floor and chest...then it is still a rocking room!

  38. Hi,
I've been contemplating gray floors and now I'm going to do it! But what is the best white to use on the walls? What did you do?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love white walls but not so white that they're cold looking. You could go with colors like Benjamin Moore Icicle, Simply White or if you want a little bit warmer white, the ready-mixed China White is really nice. Good luck!
