Stencilling is one fun and creative way of adding more life to our floors without much stress and effort. One does not even need professional assistance in doing this because it is really very easy. I layered watered down teal paint on in glazes until it had a deep translucent effect. Then I hand painted big freehand paisley-esque swirls around the edge. It was very liberating and certainly looked great compared to what had been there previously. How lovely to still be that adventurous and time rich!anniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11433701550878013807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4478201407511428968.post-33094835994671898352012-02-09T06:17:05.904-05:002012-02-09T06:17:05.904-05:00Thanks so much for featuring my floors. I've always wanted to try a diamond pattern in stain, and I decided Im going to do it in our upstairs hallway when we finally rip up the carpet. Yahoo! I think that pattern you chose is great. When we first moved into our house I sanded and painted the very worn wood~parquet floors in our entry and kitchen...then moved on to tear out all the ugly carpet on our stairs...spent hours pulling out all the tacks and sanding the plywood sub floor...then primed, painted and sealed them. It was to be a somewhat temporary fix but we ended up keeping it for several years! I was perfectly happy with the look until my son hinted that he was getting tired of it by commenting, "Mom, you do know these stairs aren't hard wood don't you???" I sensed a hint of sarcasm in his teenage voice and eventually covered them. That being said, to this day I have a fondness for painted floors. Thus, in a very long~winded way I'm saying I LOVE this post! ;) I especially appreciate your link to the Lovely Etc. floor and blog. Love anything paisley and would love to do one wall stenciling with the same color but just a bit of sheen.

I also love floors stenciled with stain. I have a single step from the dining room to the living room which was dangerous because people didn't expect it. I used stain and stenciled along the edge of the step to bring attention to it. highlighted a few areas of the design with rub-on gold "gilding" It worked and has drawn lots of compliments.

Can't wait to see if you decide to proceed--or if this might be a case of "too many ideas, too little time/space"Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4478201407511428968.post-17488765823466615372012-02-04T12:16:29.381-05:002012-02-04T12:16:29.381-05:00OK, I kinda freaked when I saw THAT paisley photo ...OK, I kinda freaked when I saw THAT paisley photo because I had pinned it on Pinterest after searching for a paisley stencil to do on my kitchen walls!
